The Civilian Committee

The Air Training Corps is structured in such a way that as well as the military influence there is an allied civilian structure.

In fact, the Civilian Committee is the backbone of the Corps and determines the running of the ATC from Squadron level through to representation on the Air Defence Council.

281 (Southport) Squadron Civilian Committee comprises of parents and friends of the Squadron.

Their role is to ensure the Squadron maintains direction, assisting the Commanding Officer and raising funds.

If you would like to know more please email or telephone the squadron with your preferred contact details.

We can arrange an informal chat with a parents or friend of the committee who will answer any queries or concerns you may have.

Fund Raising

Fund raising is vital as although the Squadron is allocated a small sum towards its administrative costs all other expenses must be paid for from non-public funds and, therefore, have to be met by the Squadron itself. Other than flying, gliding, shooting and some sport all other activities are supported through fund raising.

Build Friendships
Parents and friends of the Civilian Committee often build their own friendships and social activities through the meetings or just by helping out when time permits, such as the Southport airshow, Woodvale rally, barbecues, sponsored walks or other sport events.

Share 'Your' Skills

In addition to the committee meetings there are many other areas where support is much needed:

  • advice to young people on careers in your area of knowledge
  • helping obtain equipment
  • providing 'your' skills i.e. cooking, vehicle and building maintenance, administrative skills, computer support
  • operation of the weekly tuck shop

There are also other adult opportunities like Civilian Instructor. Details can be found on the Air Cadets.org web site.

No Commitments

The Committee usually meets once per quarter, under the direction of a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.

281 (Southport) Squadron Civilian Committee will be very pleased to accept offers of any help - even if you can not commit to regular or long term assistance.

Please note the squadron meets on a Monday and Friday night at the old St Peter’s School Building in Upper Aughton Road, Birkdale, opposite the Blundell Arms public house from 19:15 hours (7.15 p.m.) to 21:30 hours (9.30 p.m.)
